REALITY NO LONGER BATTLES PERCEPTION

I don’t think I’ll ever understand this.

It seems like such a simple concept, but why can’t we all just love one another? Why do people have to hold grudges? Fight with their own flesh and blood? Go so far as to hate them, and call them names? Every single day it’s something new. Whether in my own life or on the news. In politics. On Facebook. So-and-so is not supportive of gay marriage. Why not? This person murdered this person as result of a racial dispute. Why? Did this person’s race ruin your life? Everyday I see people that are so fucking ignorant, they hate other people and for what reasons? They generally have none.

Here’s an idea: LOVE EVERYONE. For no reason at all. Because we are all human beings and we’ll be sharing this lovely planet for the foreseeable future regardless of our race, sexual orientation, creed (or lack thereof), and gender.

JUST LOVE. Let go of your grudges. Stop the name calling. Drop the stereotypes. Live your life in harmony with all of the other people trying to do the same.

LIVE IN LOVE (-Times of Grace).

Get your ignorant heads out of your prejudiced asses people. As a society and as a race we are better than this.

Ignorance is…

When you tell someone an outright fact, and they act like they’re completely above it.

I told an economically disappointed person (a self-admitted conservative whom dislikes President Obama openly, by the way) that the unemployment rate is under 10% for the first time since 2009, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and real estate sales were on the ascent finally. That fact is backed by the National Association of Realtors, who declared that sales rose 15.4% in the final quarter of 2010 and is expected to keep rising. So in other words, the economy is starting to look up again, despite the gas prices (which, please don’t get me started on that one).

Her response: “I don’t believe that. I didn’t see anything about that on the news.”

Well, my unenlightened coworker, are you ready for this one? You didn’t hear it on the news, because they don’t tell you when anything good happens! If anything happens that is not about death, destruction, failure, or demise, you’re not going to see it on the six o’clock news!

That, my friend, is ignorance.

So sick of this ground zero mosque bullshit…

Will everyone stop talking about this mosque crap? I am so tired of hearing about it, for several reasons. Reasons being:

  1. I’m pretty sure the debate is over, a report (though unconfirmed at this point I think) stated that they changed their plans for constructing a mosque near the ground zero site and have decided to move it.
  2. Most Americans just pretty much destroyed our very foundations which this country was built on, by being ignorant. We are attempting to restrict religious freedoms by preventing it. Yes, it’s a touchy subject. Can’t we be the better people for once and suck up our pride instead of having to control everything America?
  3. Not all Muslims are terrorists. Unless you had family/friends in the WTC on 9/11 and would have a legit reason to be sensitive, shut the fuck up. You’re ignorant. Oh, and oops- you’re racist and religiously intolerant! Way to go!
  4. I’m not a religious person. I don’t believe in god and I don’t follow anything relating to any religion. However, if the Christian/Catholic God exists (thus making a point for the majority of the country), he’d probably think you were all ignorant too and you’d go to hell for it. And with that, fuck you, Reverend Terry Jones. For those who don’t know, this is a Florida pastor who planned a burning of copies of the Qur’an on September 11th, who is at this moment en route to New York. Here’s a clergyman likely booked on a flight straight to hell.
  5. Whether or not I agree with any specific side on this, it is causing a lot of trouble and I’m very happy it’s hopefully coming to a close. After all, a Kentuckian recently decided it was a great idea to torch a mosque construction site in anger. Yeah, that’ll do some good for your cause. Go back home to your trailer park.
  6. In all reality, it proves how stupid and intolerant the average person is. I asked around at work the other day this question, “If it had been a Catholic church they were trying to build there, would you be as offended by it?” Answer all around from 7 people: “No.” Point proven. There have been just as many, probably more, terrorist attacks from domestic sources than from foreign sources in this country’s 234 year history. Not all foreign attacks have been by Muslims either. And not nearly all Muslims are terrorists. And that being said, Islam is a religion based on ideals of peace and discipline. So I win. You are all ignorant and stupid.

So what is my stance? I definitely don’t think anything should be built on the former WTC site. A memorial recognizing the terror of the day and to mourn the loss, perhaps? But regardless, if they want to put a mosque there, so be it. I won’t stop them. Maybe it’s my indifference to religion that gives me a better perspective. Who knows? Yeah, there may be a few people offended by it. But I believe the vast majority would get over it. There are people offended by everything. If more than three people read this post, there are bound to be some of them offended by that, too.

I wish to enlighten the world. Maybe it’ll do some good. Message to all Americans: be tolerant of other cultures and creeds. We founded this country on that ideal and I’d like to think we should stick with it. We are considered by many to be the best country on the planet. Let’s not give them a reason to think otherwise.
