Diet Update: Day 24
Brief update from the ol’ iTouch. Bought a scale today. Weighed in at 227 just a few minutes ago. 15 lbs down, 17 to go. Almost halfway there, and haven’t even been exercising. Currently using the ridiculous weather as an excuse to not take the bike out (who can blame me?) but making up for it by eating virtually no carbs. Today I consumed about 15g of carbs in total. Between two...

Politics, and You (Part Deux)
I came to an epiphany with myself the other night, actually as a result of something that my family said. I have found myself engaged in a lot of political banter lately, and everyone has discovered a pretty common thread in my political opinion: I do not, and downright refuse to, subscribe to either side of the coin. And for a reason. I don’t believe in political parties; I tend to believe...

My Only Regret
It would be selfish of me to wish that my grandparents (on my dad’s side) were still around. My grandmother was in a lot of pain for a large portion of her life, and once she passed my grandfather had nothing left to stick around for. My grandmother passed on January 21, 2001 (my god, it has been ten years…). My family has never been the same since. A few months back I wrote a blog...

Album Review: The Human Abstract - Digital Veil
So I was really excited for the new album from The Human Abstract to come out, and here’s why: their debut release Nocturne was brilliant, possibly one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. It was fun. It was progressive. It was heavy. I automatically knew which tracks were my favorites. Then in 2008 they followed it up with Midheaven. Kind of took a step away from Nocturne, but in the...

Diet Update: Day 17
OK, so I know I never posted a Day 1 entry, so here is a brief wrap-up: I am on a low-carb, high-protein diet, done properly. I am increasing my cardio with a new mountain bike that I just bought, and I am supplementing with certain things I bought at my store. My starting weight was somewhere around 242. I would like to drop to about 210, and then get completely toned up. Right now, I am working...

Album Review: Rise Against - Endgame
After listening to Rise Against’s new release a couple of times all the way through, I have mixed opinions about it. After all, it sounds to me like an honest-to-goodness punk rock album. Age has taken its effects on this band, as you can see the progression from albums like Siren Song of the Counter Culture to their last release Appeal to Reason; basically, the newer the album, the more...

Movie Review: Paul
Only but one word to describe this movie: hilarious. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are always great, Jason Bateman plays a pretty different role in this, but does it well, and you gotta love Bill Hader in pretty much any movie. I laughed basically the entire time. BOTTOM LINE: Go see it while it’s still in theaters. It’s probin’ time.

I can solve the gas mileage crisis.
Yep, you heard it here. I have a simple way to raise the nation’s fuel economy by 0.7 MPG almost instantly. Ready? Here goes. I drive about 350 miles every week. I drive generally six days back and forth from work on highways, county roads, and the like for at least a half hour at a time. And you know what I see, every single day? I am constantly feeling left behind at traffic lights,...

My Official, Yet Uncompleted Bucket List
Everyone has that list of things to accomplish before they die. Well, here’s mine. Some of these are more significant than others, but I have it listed in no particular order to save energy. So here goes: 1. See the following countries: Australia, Italy, Germany, Japan, and Jamaica. 2. Sky dive or bungee jump.  3. Drive a lap around the Nürburgring. 4. Reach 200 MPH in a car. 5. Spark a...

I have finally grown up.
I grew up in a familial sense when I was 18 years old and moved out of my parents’ house on a whim. I grew up in a professional sense when I was just turning 21 years old and landed my first REAL job, in a field I could be at least somewhat happy in. I grew up in a romantic and personal sense when I was freshly 22 years old, got my own place and got married. Despite all of that, it has...

Ignorance is...
When you tell someone an outright fact, and they act like they’re completely above it. I told an economically disappointed person (a self-admitted conservative whom dislikes President Obama openly, by the way) that the unemployment rate is under 10% for the first time since 2009, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and real estate sales were on the ascent finally. That fact is...

Post #100: Why Having a Beard is Fantastic
PROLOGUE: So here is my glorified post number 100. I appreciate all of the suggestions from Facebook (I say all, but I’m sure there were actually only two), but I’d like to thank Bill for his suggestion, as he is the winner. Now here are the top reasons why having a beard is just plain great. 1. According to Facebook, a beard makes a man wise. 2. Look at the kinds of professions...

Movie Review: Hall Pass
Short and sweet, here we go. I’m tired of people seeing these kinds of movies (including other Farrelly brothers flicks) and complaining of the lack of plot depth, or lack of character development. Did Dumb and Dumber have an outstanding plot? Hell no. But it was fucking hilarious! Same deal with Hall Pass. Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis impressed me even more than I was expecting in this...
